We just returned from an overnight stay at this lovely venue and can not say enough about how relaxed and renewed we feel. We were given the Romance Package as a gift for our anniversary and we felt pampered and spoiled since our arrival. The history and idyllic garden setting make this a unique spot. Parts of an Old Mill are used for decor. It is rustic and filled with rich colour and textures. Our room had a hand written note inviting us to enjoy complimentary chocolate dipped strawberries that were in our fridge and there was a lovely hand tied bouquet of flowers on our bedside table! Our room was rustic, clean, simple and perfect. It is an older hotel of course so if you want “fancy hotel chain” type amenities then maybe this is not for you. WE LOVED IT!! Our room was so private and our balcony was perched above the rapids so the water lulled us to sleep. We had coffee on the balcony, form an in room keurig machine, and saw a mink fishing for breakfast. Tatum served us in the dining room and the food was delectable. Our table had high backed chairs and we were facing the stream….views of tiger lilies and the woods. The service is not rushed or pushy so you can enjoy every delicious mouthful! Myron found us our seat and called us when it was available, close to the window under hanging candles. Colleen and Jane at the front desk were so helpful, knowledgeable and spoke to us in such a friendly manner, making us feel like part of a family. Personal service here is incredible! We did have a dip in the lovely pool facing the river and we stretched out in the sun on the deck. Our evening ended with twinkle lights under the trees, creme brulee that was perfect, and wine in the woods. We will certainly return to Benmiller Inn!!
Room Tip: Our room was 34 in the River Mill and faced no other rooms and had the only balcony above the rapids…

Liz and I are rarely inspired to write letters to places of business. However, this is one of those exceptions that deserves acknowledgment and thanks.
This past January The Benmiller Inn was our selected venue to host a family wedding. It was an exceptional event. The 100 guests, family members and friends continue to compliment us on the charm, hospitality, food and suitability of your hotel for an event like this.
Sharpe’s Retreat was the perfect building for part of our family to call home for this weekend. Friday’s rehearsal dinner was followed with a party catered by Benmiller. Forty to fifty guests comfortably spread out in the spacious and home like setting of Sharpe’s Retreat. Saturday morning the house then became a central preparation & dressing room for girls in the wedding party. Thank you for extending the buffet breakfast this far from the dining room. The girl’s had a great time.
We seemed to be eating constantly this weekend. Fortunately we were at Benmiller. All meals were delicious, individual diet requirements were attended to and even the most discriminating food critics, (our son in-law and many friends are chefs), declared Benmiller the best!
Staff, too many to name individually, were warm, welcoming and devoted. The Inn’s charming and nostalgic décor was comforting, relaxed and created the mood of a personal visit to a grand country cottage rather than a hotel.
Thank you for making this once in a lifetime event a truly memorable one. Liz and I will also look forward to The Benmiller Inn being a destination for years to come.
Yours very truly Elizabeth and Steve Scott Waterloo. Ontario. – letter received in the mail
Our Extended Holiday Stay At Ben Miller Inn Was Second To None This is the happy truth. We came for a few days this spring, after house moving, just to relax and plan a trip to Florida till our new place was ready, and after a few days enjoying the gorgeous pool, hot tub and sauna, overlooking the mighty Maitland River and mill falls, my wife Anna said…”Let’s Stay Here!”. We were actually packed with sandals, shorts etc in the SUV. To be frank, we have stayed at the Inn many times over the years, since 1978, sometime several days at a time, sometimes just for lunch on the outdoor patio beside the river, but this was totally impromptu and such a pleasant surprise to us both to consider. Certainly we were exhausted, but the attention everyone paid to us, and such stunning surroundings, inside and out, we found it quite easy to get used to the idea. After such remarkable food experiences, in the ambience of a first class establishment we have always thought, combined with a setting along the river tributaries that flow beside the dining room and meander about the premises, and just in the first couple of days, we said to ourselves…..the pool is warm, the hot tub is hot, the views are amazing, the people smile, the food is sumptuous and elegant, our favourite room with balcony overlooked the water was perfect, how could we hope for better down south, and take the many risks associated with travel. Besides,we decided “pampering” trumps the rat race. We didn’t tell the staff that we were heading to Florida at first, but eventually we did. They were astounded. Can you imagine seeing the same hosts daily as you partake such delectable’s created by the several chefs, often they would see us walking down the walkway for late morning breakfast and have our table waiting with hot coffee already poured!!! We encouraged them to call us by our first names, which they had difficulty accepting, but we insisted. All the staff is truly genuine and conciencous, just what you might expect from an established country inn. After every breakfast, which included fresh fruit continental and their signature scones, then hot Huron County food where even the pea meal bacon was homemade, we had to work it off, so we headed out to explore, at least every second day was walking the trails around the Inn and Conservation Area, the local towns, always returning to the pool for a couple of hours to read and compute. Eventually, the fish were jumping right outside the floor to ceiling windows at the pool. Our favourite thing. The housekeeping staff kept us clean and tidy beyond our expectation. They were terrific. We even met the Owner, who is truly dedicated to ensure all is good for his guests. Almost all the staff is longstanding with the Inn. We have come to enjoy the comings and goings at the Inn, seeing them working with young couples planning their wedding, sharing a chat with the gardener, asking the chef in afternoon what he is preparing special for that night,(the rack of lamb is indescribable) talking with the desk crew that seem to have the best job of talking with people on the phone who are excitedly booking a getaway. Everything was set in a rustic yet elegant atmosphere, but almost every guest we saw was dressed to their own comfort, like us. That way, they had the most fun it seemed. We wouldn’t hesitate to return, even after experiencing as much of the daily routine of business as we did, but it was what worked for us. Thank you all at the Inn for a very memorable holiday.

PS: the Sunday Brunch draws crowds from afar, and made things exciting for us, we couldn’t wait till the weekend. The pastry chef Martin is renowned for his creations, we can attest.
I recently had the opportunity to get away on my own to the Benmiller Inn in Goderich, Ontario – and I can’t wait to do it again! I was greeted warmly by Dawn at the front desk and immediately made to feel welcome! My room was charming, dinner was fabulous, I enjoyed a great night’s sleep, and treated myself to a wonderful, relaxing massage at the spa the next morning. It was only a little over an hour’s drive for me from London, and I decided to drive to Stratford for the afternoon before going home, which was another easy drive away! It was such a lovely, affordable and rejuvenating time away! I will definitely go back again soon! “Charming getaway!”

I have been staying several nights a week at the Benmiller Inn since 2009. over this long period of time you would expect some variations in the level of service,” This has not been the case” The service from all staff, the accommodation, meals and amenities have always been great. I have referred many friends and business associates and they have all been enthusiastic about the inn.

The Benmiller Inn is a superb place to get away from it all in style. It’s rustic and luxurious all at the same time: from the gorgeous views of the river, to the room décor, to the sumptuous meals, to the wine list, to the staff there to ensure every perfect personal detail. When I first called to book our getaway, Lori suggested the perfect room, and it was breathtaking. Once again we have another beautiful memory thanks to the Benmiller Inn. If you’ve never stayed here, you simply must because quite frankly, the Benmiller Inn never disappoints. We cannot wait until we come back again next year.
Room Tip: Our favourite rooms are in The Mill

Charm, in the dictionary, should have a photo of Benmiller Inn and spa. Our recent experience was perfect from check-in to check-out. The staff..in every department was professional, friendly, helpful and fun! The food was amazing for both dinner and brunch. The hot food was piping hot and the cold selections were fresh, tasty and plenty of everything! Dinner was amazing and we all ordered something different so we could do some of our own taste testing! There was enterainment on the Saturday night and it was terrific! The rooms were tranquil with a relaxing atmosphere. We went for a long walk after brunch and even the neighbours were friendly! This is a gem and if you have not been there or maybe not for awhile-check it out-you will not be disappointed.
Room Tip: We stayed in Rivermill and our family at Gledhill and both were fantastic!

Was looking for a romantic get-away between Christmas and New Years and had biked in this area years ago. They have a great program…..mention room and breakfast and they give you the next, best room available. We got an awesome room, overlooking the Maitland River, 4th floor, size of a 2 bedroom apartment. Drove over from K-W area, 90 KPH all the way, my buddy went downtown Toronto same time, the last 15 KM took him over an hour + with the ice storm/power outage there, his hotel was filled with screaming kids and dogs everywhere. Quickly checked in and got settled in room, front desk mentioned TV and internet was off…so what? Lot’s to do. Decided to start with the pool/dry sauna/hot tub cycle for an hour or so, very quiet and private. Then got ready for dinner, yes if staying in the part of Benmiller that has the pool, have to go outside to get to dining room. We decided to walk, amazing number of stars, even saw the Milky Way. Dinner was delicious, lot’s of vegetarian selections for my partner and we had a very buttery but not oaky, private label Chardonnay. Yum. Back in the room, we decided to do another pool/sauna/hot tub cycle or 3. Total relaxation + the king sized bed with feathertop was awesome. TV and internet was working…but who needs that in a place like this? Next morning was a slow-wake up, the single portion hot in-room-beverage machine was awesome…I hate coffee flavoured tea….both were yummy. We had reserved a brunch time and were slightly late walking up the road to dinning room, not a problem. Massive selection of food choices for brunch, we left plumped up nicely ( we love good food but not to excessive quantites, quality vs quantity). The Chef running the omlette station encourages bringing ingrediants from elsewhere ( ie blue cheese from cheese station) to create your perfect dish. Back in the room, outside, Mr Eagle was flying around above Maitland River, sadly with family events scheduled, we had to pass on pool/sauna/hot tub. Lot’s to do in the area, Part 2 Bistro in Blyth was great, walking/biking trails in Goderich was enjoyable, shopping district in Bayfield was a bit boring.

One of the most wonderful aspects of the Benmiller is its cozy, restful country inn quality, fitting its history and location. We stayed in the River House this time, in a room with a balcony overlooking the Maitland River, and we thoroughly enjoyed the views, as well as the luxuriously comfortable bed. We also had a nice sitting area next to the sliding door. The pool was sparkling clean, and we loved basking in the hot autumn sun on the pool deck. Dinner in the Ivey Room was delicious and stylish, served with grace. We walked the trails in the next-door Conservancy area, and took the pleasant drive over to Stratford for a play and dinner. The Inn staff was warm, cordial, helpful, and professional – all one could wish.
Room Tip: All of the rooms in the 3 main buildings are individually distinctive – this is not a cookie-cutter…

Stayed at the Benmiller in overnight on the weekend with my husband and another couple. Had stopped in for lunch previously, so decided to try it for a relaxing ‘time away’. Absolutely beautiful spot! Our package included dinner and Sunday brunch the next day and the food did not disappoint! First class food paired with superb service from the time we arrived made this an absolutely wonderful weekend. It’s not cheap as far as budget goes, but we thought the value was there and worth every penny. Definitely and special occasion spot if you are looking for something extra wonderful:) There are trails and a conservation area very close to the inn and the front desk staff provided us with directions and a map and we hiked over to see the falls. Small touches like the turndown and lemon cookies and the book detailing the history of the inn in our room just enhanced an already charming spot! The entertainment was a piano player/singer that entranced us so much that we did not want to see him leave – excellent, professional and fun! It would be worth the drive just to come for him! This is a spot that is well worth making a destination for your weekend and the fall colours just make this place – good for the soul:) Out of 10 – I’d put this as a 12! You will not be disappointed.

Incredible room, great service! Stayed for the weekend, was nice to be out of the city! We had several spa services and they were very relaxing. Would definitely recommend to family and friends for future getaways. Lots to do, hiking, swimming, sauna, hot tub. Restaurant was great, bar was awesome, can not say enough about the service.

We stayed just this past Sunday at the Benmiller Inn and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The beautiful serene setting, the fabulous meals and the gracious and welcoming staff made our visit simply perfect. We had a wonderful room overlooking the river and everyone – from reception to housekeeping to the servers in the restaurant were professional, unfailingly friendly and pleasant. We took the time to enjoy the Blyth Theatre and so enjoyed ‘Yorkville’! We spent some time touring Goderich and had a great day in Bayfield. Huron County is a wonderful destination and the Benmiller is THE place to stay…Can’t wait to return. Room Tip: Ask for room 67 overlooking the river – a beautiful spacious room with a lovely seating area

This is the perfect place to relax. The pool is large, always clean and refreshing. Lovely places to sit and enjoy the river. The rooms are luxurious and comfortable. I felt very pampered. Breakfast was included, the selections from the buffet were good, fresh and hot and but they were also willing to make something special when asked. The staff was very courteous and friendly. This has become a regular summer get away. Watch for specials on their website, and don’t forget to ask about AAA and CAA discounts. Room Tip: If you like to be near the dining area, stay in the Main House.

We have visited the Benmiller Inn almost every year for over 25 years! Each visit has been unique. Our most recent visit a few days ago was one of the best! We had a room in the Gledhill building that overlooked the pond, with a small balcony. It was so beautiful. We noticed that the room had some new updates in terms of leather chairs, beautiful pillows and bedding, and a Keurig coffeemaker. We had dinner in the dining room which was excellent! Our server was Dan, and he was very knowledgeable about the menu and so friendly. The breakfast was delicious as always. We love coming back to Benmiller frequently, it is so relaxing and we can always count on a relaxing experience with friendly and helpful staff.

My husband and I decided to get away for the weekend for a much deserved break from the every day hectic world. We had been to Benmiller 8 years ago and my husband made the last minute decision that we should go again….and I am so happy he did. Is the Inn in need of some updating…absolutely. Can we see that the new owner is making and effort…..absolutely. These things take both time and money, but what they may lack in the way of frills they more than make up for in setting, staffing and overall enjoyment. We stayed in the Gledhill House, second floor – loved waking up in the morning, opening the balcony doors and listening to all those happy birds! Met a very nice young lady while walking the property who turned out to be the GM – Dawn – very helpful and took the time to discuss the work that has taken place since the storm blew through a couple of years ago. The garden/patio area off the dining room is beautiful – you forget that there is a road just on the other side of the trees. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a cocktail, maybe dinner, and soft music playing while you listen to the water go by and enjoy the view of floral gardens and mature trees. Breakfast was included in our stay and was delicious and the brunch on Sunday was very impressive with a good selection of breakfast and hot entrée items along with a selection of salads and naturally sinful desserts. You are a short drive into Goderich (5-10 min) and definitely worth the drive into this lovely little town. A nice assortment of little shops in the downtown square and take a drive or walk down to the waterfront. Better yet, take a picnic lunch and enjoy. It has to be one of the nicest waterfronts we have seen in a long time….don’t miss it. And not to be forgotten – the staff who made our weekend that much better. Having had dinner both nights at the Inn, one night in the dining room and one night outside – the food was very good. We had the pleasure of being taken care of by Dan and Myron – both were wonderful, friendly and another reason why we would go back to Benmiller. If you are there on a Saturday night, don’t miss the entertainment in the lounge that starts at 7 pm – sit back, have an after dinner cocktail and enjoy the one man show – anyone who can do Elvis, Johnny Cash, Supertramp and Otis Redding over the evening has talent! The bonus is that if you are sitting outside when the entertainment starts – don’t worry – they make sure they pipe him through the speaker system so you can still enjoy him.

We spent one night at the Benmiller Inn, looking for an active weekend escape from Toronto. Here’s a short report: the drive from Toronto was about 2hours and 45 minutes. It was a pleasant drive with many interesting stops on the way. We arrived at the Inn and were stunned by how beautiful the property was. After checking in, we had lunch outside in a beautiful garden setting, great food and good drinks. The rooms are scattered over a large property, with 5 or 6 different buildings, so make sure you know where you want to be. We stayed in a spa room that was about 500m from the main building. The room was big and nicely appointed, but was very modern, sparse and not very cottagey or rustic. If you prefer a rustic room, another building is probably recommended. That said, it had a lovely view, great bed and huge Jacuzzi tub. Note: the spa rooms dont have full window blinds, and the sun comes in early! If you’re planning to sleep in, don’t pick a spa room. We grabbed a hiking map and did 5 kms of really good hiking through the woods, the trail starting right near our hotel room. Trails were immaculate and easy to follow for novice hikers. We had dinner at the Inn, and all the positive reviews about the food are spot on. It was delicious, locally sourced and on par with top dining in Toronto. In fact the food overall was wonderful, and a huge plus for the Benmiller. Bright and early in the am, we took our bikes down to the beach at Goderich and biked from beach to beach. We returned for our included buffet brunches, which was spectacular. Some advice: Make sure you understand the differences between the rooms so you find the right room for you. The staff and service are very good, although very quirky and strange at times. We cant wait to go back for a weekend!

Went to the Benmiller with a couple of my girlfriends for a long overdue Girls’ Getaway and we elected to book an overnight stay at the Benmiller Inn & Spa. So glad we did – we had an excellent time. We chose one of the Select rooms, which was overlooking the millpont (beautiful view in the morning) and was just down the road from the main building. Worked great for us as it was right beside access to the Maitland Trail network and right across from the building housing the sauna, hot-tub and pool, to which we availed ourselves. We had dinner at the Inn’s restaurant – beautiful ambiance, a great spot for a quiet meal, no rush, good food. We returned for lunch the next day, after a long hike through the woods and along the river, and had some of their pulled pork sliders and sweet potato fries… excellent! Overall the Inn is well appointed and well kept. There are some wear’n’tear signs but, honestly, these old buildings are in superb shape! The hosts were very friendly, accommodating and helpful. I would book a return stay. Recommended for couples, certainly, and for friends who are looking to get away for some quiet reprieve and catch-up! Loads to do in the area – kayaking, hiking, sightseeing. Not far from town (a few minutes in the car) for shopping and foodie stops. Room Tip: Be sure to request a room overlooking the water (east-facing) for beautiful sunrise moments. –Caz T Kitchener, Canada – View on TripAdvisor
My husband and I recently experienced a tragic event in our lives and decided we needed to take some time for ourselves.
On Thursday, July 21, 2014 as a last minute decision we headed to the only place we go to escape the kids and our hectic life. We have been guests throughout our 18 yrs together.
This was not our first experience with Benmiller as it has been our only go to “getaway” which guarantees fantastic unique cuisine mixed with the most warm, hospitable and friendly food service staff!
Our dinner began with Myron greeting us with a warm smile escorting us to our table. Quickly followed by our bubbly, knowledgable, warm and wonderful waitress Haley! She truly made our night! Alyssa followed right behind with water between busily clearing tables, and assisting other customers.
It was a busy Thursday night but your team of professional staff graced the floors without missing a beat! They were very accommodating. Took their time with each customer, treating them like they were family (or better!). My husband and I looked on and smiled with amazement. What a great feeling to be in their presence.
The next morning we were blessed with the delightful Amber. A smile from ear to ear. We smiled at each other and wished we’d been able to stay another night.
Your employees are knowledgeable and dedicated to pleasing your customers. It was clear that each staff member live up to your quote “Through these doors walk the finest people. Our guests. Our friends.”
Thank you for taking us away, even for our short stay and making our experience one to be remembered.
Please pass this along to your staff, the owner and anyone else we may have missed.
We hope to see you again 🙂 Sincerely & Respectfully, Cynthia and Steve Dettloff Dorchester, ON – Rm 42
